Govt. asks district administration to establish VCs to monitor ration distribution Nitesh Sangral 9/18/2012 7:20:23 PM JAMMU, Sept 18: Government has directed the authorities to constitute Vigilance Committees (VCs) comprising concerned MLAs, District Development Commissioner (DDCs), Sarpanchs and Panchs to monitor distribution of ration and other essential commodities in their respective areas. The step has been taken against the repeated complaints received by the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) about the siphoning off ration by some ration dealers in active collaboration of the CAPD staff at its godowns. Sources said that even in villages around Jammu district, people are facing shortage of ration mainly because it does not reach the respective dealers and is being sold after it moves out from the godowns. Betrayal of trust by government PHE daily wagers without salaries for one year Nitesh Sangral 9/15/2012 8:29:07 PM JAMMU, Sept 15: Denied their salaries for last six months, nearly 12000 daily wagers of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department have threatened to suspend their work in case their salaries are not released immediately. The workers include Consolidated Paid wagers (CP workers), Need Base Workers, Daily Rated Workers. At the moment daily wagers are given Rs.110 per day. This despite the fact that government had assured in the floor of the House that all the daily rate workers will be given salary every month. In February 2011, state government had issued a notice (circular number 4) according to which they had agreed to pay uniform salary of Rs.110 per day to all the daily wagers. Electrocuted truck driver still missing, police unable to recover body Nitesh Sangral 9/12/2012 9:12:11 PM JAMMU, Sept 12: Due to irresponsible behavior of Power Development Department (PDD) a truck driver was electrocuted in Jeeven Nagar on Tuesday. The incident happened in the Jeevan Nagar and the driver has been identified as 22 year old Nirmal Singh son of Mulla Singh resident of Chandigarh. Eyewitness said that a truck No: HR02N-0385 loaded with electric goods (washing machines) was unloading the same when it touched a 11000 Volt electric wire passing over the truck.
