JAMMU, Sept 17: The delay in payment of the salary to in service doctors perusing Post Graduation (PG) in Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu has taken a life of a budding doctor.

Sources said that a doctor Ranbir Singh son of Punjab Singh resident of Resham Ghar Colony, whose body was recently found in a canal at Jeevan Nagar allegedly committed suicide, as he was not receiving regular salary for past few months.

His closed friend on condition of anonymity said that Ranbir was doing PG in Pathology in 3rd year and was under huge pressure as many of the doctors have not received their salaries for last two to three months, after health department stopped it due to fund crunch.

They further alleged that on August 17, 11 in service doctors met with the Commissioner Secretary MK Dwivedi, who had assured them that their salaries will be released in few weeks. But no step was taken to release it.

“Despite the fact that doctors in GMC Srinagar are getting salaries but those pursuing their PG from Jammu are not receiving it on time. At times they have to wait for months together”, alleged a doctor. They said why health department is doing discrimination with the Jammu doctors

“Depression finally forced Ranbir to take the extreme step which shows how the health department and government is treating the future medical students in the state.

Its shame on the system and those who run it”, alleged another PG student.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Medical Education Department of the state government has recently ordered that the doctors who are doing post graduation from GMCH will get only stipend.

When contacted Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Medical Education M. K. Dwivedi, said that the PG doctors met with him and they discussed their problems.

“I had told them that the issue has been taken with the government. I really don’t know the PG doctors have not get salary so far”, Dwivedi said.

“I will ask to the cornered authority why they are not issue the salary of PG doctors of Jammu,” he added.

Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu Chief Account Officer (CAO) Dr Tubassum said that the some days ago Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Medical Education M. K. Dwivedi had, he will go to civil secretariat Srinagar and issue an order, but till now the GMC Jammu have not get any clarification notice.

She further said that we have already sent to two reminders in the concerned authority but authority has not taken action in this regard.

Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, June 27: In yet another case of how our society is heading towards moral ruin, a recent case of sexual exploitation of B.ed girl has again exposed the vulnerability of our sisters and daughters. Though the accused have been arrested by the police while he was fleeing towards Kashmir, but it raises lot of question about the moral degradation of our society, which has long tradition of ‘Guru-Shiysha’ concept. Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored.
