Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 28: Due to
alleged negligence on the part of health department, two patients died in the
isolation wards meant for suspected swine flu cases at makeshift hospital in
Col Chopra Nursing Home.
One more case of GMCH
doctors' alleged negligence came to the fore when the report of Dr Bhupinder
Singh, a pediatrician tested negative for H1N1. He had died of respiratory
problems last Thursday. The doctors had not bothered to examine him for some
other disease. Similarly, a few days ago, a patient namely Raj Kumar died in
the isolated ward of GMCH. He too was not affected with swine flu as per his
medical report. He too failed to get the requisite treatment in the hospital.
Reliable sources in GMCH
said as per the medical examination report of Dr Bhupinder Singh, he was not
infected with H1N1. This raises serious questions on the professional conduct
of the doctors who had attended on Dr Bhupinder. Sources said Dr Bhupinder
could have been saved if all the requisite tests were conducted on him to find
out the disease he was suffering from. But the doctors only took his blood
sample and sent it to National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) in
Delhi. The doctors also kept him in the isolated ward in Col Chopra Nursing
Home of GMCH.
He was alleged to be
treated for swine flu.He died of respiratory problems for which he was not
treated, sources alleged. Raising question on the working of GMCH doctors,
sources said that due to non-seriousness on their part, two patients died in
confusion as they suffered from other ailments. "Who is responsible for
their deaths?" the sources asked. When contacted, GMCH principal, Dr
Ghanshyam Dev Gupta said that Dr Bhupinder Singh was suffering from Asthma at
time he was admitted.
When asked why he was shifted to isolated ward,
where there was high risk of the virus, he said that there was now risk of H1N1
and administration hospital had established separate ward for the H1N1
suspects. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Shantmanu said that if need arose, an
inquiry would be conducted into Dr Bhupinder's death."Yesterday, I took up
the issue with Health Secretary and passed directions to also conduct other
tests on the suspected swine flu patients," he informed.
