Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 16: A high voltage drama was witnessed in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu on Thursday when former the Principal refused to leave the chair for his successor.

The government on Tuesday issued an order removing GMC Principal, Dr. Zahid Gillani, and appointed Dr. Sunanda Raina as the new Principal. But Dr Gillani refused to obey the order, and made rounds of the hospital premises, escorted by unwilling officials.
Senior GMC doctors told Early Times that Dr Gillani entered into the chamber of the Principal and threw away the flower bouquets lying on the table, which had been presented to Dr Raina by the faculty members.
"As Dr Raina came to know about the incident, she chose to rush to her department's room, as she didn't want to enter into any argument with the ex-Principal," sources said.
"After spending an hour in the Principal's chamber, Dr Gillani called some doctors who are posted on administrative posts, and asked them to follow him during the round of emergency. Afterward, he with escorts of officials visited the GMC&H's Emergency. Later he came back to the Principal's chamber and sat there for some time," sources said. They said that after 2 pm, the Principal's room was locked and Dr Gillani returned to his parent department of Pharmacology.
Notably, Health Minister Bali Bhagat had issued Dr Gillani's removal order and replaced him with Dr Raina as GMC Principal.
Suspension order issued
Health Minister Bali Bhagat has issued ex-Principal, GMC, DR Zahid Gillani's suspension order. Bhagat told Early Times that a committee has been also constituted. "I will take legal action against him for disobeying government order," Bhagat said.
Some GMC doctors who spoke to Early Times asked in which capacity Dr Gillani sat on the chair of Principal and made round of the hospital's Emergency ward. "It is clearly against the protocol," they said and demanded legal action against Dr Gillani for making mockery of the chair of Principal.
The doctors said that as the financial year is about to end, and each passing day is more important for administration to complete work, no work could be done on Thursday because of the scene created by Dr Gillani.
"I am working in my department since morning as an incident took place," GMC Principal and HOD of Anatomy, Dr. Raina told Early Times.
On being asked what step is being taken against the former Principal who has tarnished the image of Principal's chair, she said Dr Gillani has challenged the government order, and the government has to take action in this regard.
She also informed that the government has already filed a caveat in the court.
Meanwhile, sources said Dr Gillani has written a letter to Secretary of Health and Medical Education Department in which he mentioned that he had gone to Delhi for getting approval for PG seats and now he has returned and resumed his duty as Principal of GMC.

Kishtwar MMS scam, again raises issue, how secure is our girls

Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, June 27: In yet another case of how our society is heading towards moral ruin, a recent case of sexual exploitation of B.ed girl has again exposed the vulnerability of our sisters and daughters. Though the accused have been arrested by the police while he was fleeing towards Kashmir, but it raises lot of question about the moral degradation of our society, which has long tradition of ‘Guru-Shiysha’ concept. Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored. Few days back, a teacher of a private college was arrested for allegedly making an obscene MMS of a student in mountainous Kishtwar district. 'The teacher identified as Tariq Qayoo...
