This was informed by Divisional Railway Manager (DTM) Ferozepur Division, Northern Railway. But interestingly the railway authority has not plan to improve condition of most horrible situation railway station.

It is pertinent to mention here that the presently condition of Jammu raily station is too poor there is no proper basic facilities. Due to these things the tourist suffering, who cames outside the state as well as state they suffer a lot.

Officials source said that the Northern railway authority will plan to additional platform in the Jammu region but they have presently no such plan to improvement of exit condition of the railway station of Jammu. At present pathetic conditions of the railway station.

“Everyone is Knowing that millions of people including tourists, pilgrims and security personnel descend on Jammu Railway Station every year and strategically also the station is located at an important place, no one ever bothered to provide adequate facilities here, “he added.

One more thing about the raily station there is no properly checking, some year ago the station had also witnessed an attack by militants but despite that no substantial steps were ever initiated except raising some bunkers on every platform. “Usually the station should have escalators to clear heavy rush but lack of such facility has created complete chaos on all the platforms. Since the station is located at a height, the aged and infirm always find it difficult to reach the platforms, “he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Railway Manager (DTM) N C Goyal said that the additional platform and extra line for yards will cost worth of Rs 17-18 crores and 5 crore out of the total cost has been sanctioned by the authority and work for the same will be started soon. He also disclosed that in Jammu and Kashmir, new signals to be installed on railway tracks while fresh cabins for signal maintainence officials to be constructed.

He however disclosed that he had inspected the three railway station including Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi along with Member of Parliament Kathua-Udhampur Doda Ch Lal Singh and enquired about the status of project going on these railway stations particularly Udhampur and Reasi.

He also claimed that in the Northern Railway to provide best facilities to the people, improve cleanliness, and enable advance bookings.

Source said that this is high time that Jammu railway station requires modernization of its infrastructure to meet the ever increasing needs of people whose number also keeps swelling every year. Over 6 lakh Amarnath bound pilgrims alone had visited Jammu this year and most of them might have arrived here through rail link.

He further said that the rooms and dormitories at the platform are in a dilapidated condition and most of the waiting rooms keep stinking due to which passengers prefer to wait on the platforms thereby choking the entire movement of others including that of security personnel.

“It a wrong planning or lack of vision the railways have also started constructing some structures in its compound which with passage of time is likely to further choke the station,” he added. There is a need for having a mega development plan for the entire railway station after identifying its property and laying out proper design.
