JAMMU, Sept 11: Despite tall claims of Consumer Affair Public Distribution (CAPD) department in adopting transparency in making of ration cards, but there have been cases single families have been able to make multiple cards.

According to a source, number of families in Kathua district has managed to make multiple ration cards in the name of their family members. In cases even some living within single home have managed multiple ration card, which is against the norms.

Sources claimed that there is a well knit nexus between some officials of the department and local leaders, who are allowing this illegal work.

Official source said that some of officials does such type of practices for earn more and more money from the people but not all officials involved in this matter. The department also established such teams for properly checking of illegal activities.
Sources claimed said that some people are getting individuals ration cards with the nexus of the officials of CAPD department including high rank officers. They people taken helped of low rank officials for their work. They also provided money to them for made illegal rations cards of individuals in the Kathua area. He also mentions this illegal practices spreading in slowly, more and more people want to make his ration card individuals.

A local Ram Singh said “it is the responsibility of the authorities to keep a check on the issuance of such types of practices,” he said. He added that due to this some families have been not getting completely benefits but they still faced hardships, reason best known to those who are at the helm of the affairs.

It is pertinent to mentioned here that in last year state government announced the action would be taken against those individuals who were found involved in such malpractices and fraudulent ration card holders. Interestingly the action against them should not be taken by concerned authority as till date.

When contacted Director of CAPD department Parvez Malik said that, they cannot take action against them who were holding individuals ration cards in 2001. He also said that, after 2006 if any one getting rations cards as individual, they would be take action as per law against persons involved in the fraud.

He further said that, we will personally and our team go at there and investigation the matter. After that police and investigation agencies would probe and look into these cases.
