Electrocuted truck driver still missing, police unable to recover body

JAMMU, Sept 12: Due to irresponsible behavior of Power Development Department (PDD) a truck driver was electrocuted in Jeeven Nagar on Tuesday.

The incident happened in the Jeevan Nagar and the driver has been identified as 22 year old Nirmal Singh son of Mulla Singh resident of Chandigarh.

Eyewitness said that a truck No: HR02N-0385 loaded with electric goods (washing machines) was unloading the same when it touched a 11000 Volt electric wire passing over the truck. The driver received a severe shock and after some time fell fell into nerby canal.

The concerning police stations officials have completely failed to found the driver, despite efforts.

Around two hundred people of Jeevan Nagar had blocked the National Highway and stopped the vehicles protest against the police department and PDD department. After some time the Satwari and Gandhi Nagar Police reached on the spot and tried to made a normal situation.

Later, there is a clash between police and locals people. They people demanded immediately registered complaint against the PDD department for irresponsible behavior. They had demanding to police department to search the driver from the canal as soon as possible.

People also said that a SHO of Gandhi Nagar said two or three men go into the canal and searched the man who has missed from last day. People said the duty of police not the people, who resident of here. They alleged that the police department has been not doing their duty in efficiently. They said the wire too down from the actual place and 11 thousand voltages is going on near the School.

His father Mulla Singh said that a called on his phone through electronic agency, they said his was missing from the truck, so he immediately reached Jammu. “When we reached here, the agency officials said his son drowned in the canal”, Singh alleged.

He alleged that the police assured to us, they have issued order to stop canal. Interestingly the Tuesday at 2, 30 pm this happened but a lsot of time passed the canal has not stopped.

He demanded if my son is dead police should handed over the body to me so that i can fulfill the last rituals.

The irrigation department official said that they have received information for someone down in the canal and stopped the water of canal, we have immediately stopped the water, it take 7 to 8 hour for stopped water.

These things also raise some question against the police department, why police department have not seized the truck? Why police have not registered complaint before the protest?

Station House Officer (SHO) Satwari Abdh Rafiqi also admitted that he had not available on the spot last day. He also misbehaved with the correspondent when asked him, did he give permission to remove the vehicle from the spot and parked in the agency.

When contacted Superintendent of Police (SP) South, Rajeshwar Singh, said that the police department trying every possible things to find the missing driver. He also said that we have also their two army swimmers and taking their help to find him.
