Rehris outnumber vehicles on busy roads, JMC sleeping Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, Jan 10: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) seems to have turned blind eye towards nuisance created by “Rehris” across the city. These rehris not only lead to traffic chaos, but also cause hindrance in movement of pedestrians in busiest areas. There are around 500 to 800 rehris in the city. These rehris cause traffic jam and sometimes even lead to accidents. “It’s really very difficult to move on roads especially during the evening hours when rehriwallas are in full swing. They not only cause hindrance to smooth movement of vehicles on road but also create nuisance. Sometime they come to middle of the road to attract customers”, said Raju Singh, a resident of Nai Basti. The department has warned that if guidelines were not met, the institutions will be closed. Interestingly, in 2010 the department made a committee that had asked the private schools as well as tuitions centres to submit their fee structure in written so that guidelines and fee structure could be devised in general. Since then more than two years have passed but the committee did nothing on the vis-à-vis agenda given to her. Now, the department has asked the tuition centres to get them registered. Alarming: 30 per cent rise in cancer cases in Jammu and Kashmir Nitesh sangral JAMMU, Dec 19: Nearly 1800 cancer patient have been registered in the Regional Cancer Centre Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital Jammu this year. There has been 20 to 30 per cent rise in the number of patients every year in the state and it is matter of concern. The hospital data disclosed that in the year 2009 alone the total number of cancer patients who came to RCC to receive treatment was 1,400. An alarming rise as in 2004, the number of new cancer cases in J&K was reported to be at 1,164. As per the data state has been witnessing an increasing number of cancer cases–up from 803 in 1997 to over 1,300 in 2007. It is further says that the state reported 1,266 cancer cases in 2006, 1,185 in 2005, 1,168 in 2004, 1,058 in 2003. Thanks to the ill management, lack of publicity and planning, the park resources have remained unutilized. The establishment of STP was first mooted by State Government in 2003 and was approved Ministry of Communication and Information Technology in March 2003 and land was provided for it at Bari- Brahmna. Death of girl ------------------- Parents demand inqury against Dr. Anice Choudhary Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, Dec 13: Family members of the girl child who died due to alleged negligence of doctors at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) hospital on Wednesday are demanding an independent inquiry against the Principal Government Medical College (GMC) Dr. Anice Choudhary, who delayed providing treatment to her. They have raised question mark over the announcement to conduct an inquiry by Dr. Choudhary, who himself did not attend the patient nor responded to the calls made by the parents of the girl. On Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Sanjeev Verma had ordered a probe into the death of a child undergoing treatment in Pediatrics Unit with directions to submit a detailed report within three days for further action. Report said a girl child was admitted Amar Chand from village Desa in Doda distict about four days back with compliant that a corn seed had struck in her wind pipe. Relatives of the child alleged that despite repeated reminders to the doctors to ensure that the seed is removed, they kept the child under observation.
