Doctor’s negligence ‘killed’ child in SMGS

JAMMU, Dec 12: In yet another case of alleged negligence at a part of doctors at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, a two year old girl child died as doctor failed to provide medical help on time.

Report said a girl child was admitted Amar Chand from village Desa in Doda distict about four days back with compliant that a corn seed had struck in her wind pipe. Relatives of the child alleged that despite repeated reminders to the doctors to ensure that the seed is removed, they kept the child under observation.

After facing apathy of the system, enraged parents took the child to private clinic for checkup but doctors there suggested that only the SMGS hospital has necessary expert doctors to deal with the case. However today morning, the victim is said to have suffered much pain and breathing problem after which she breathed her last.

Annoyed family members of the deceased protested inside the hospital against the negligence of doctors and demanded stern action against them. Family members alleged that the doctors did not take the case seriously and proper treatment was not provided to the girl which resulted in her death.

Protesters were later pacified by Additional Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Sharma Jammu who visited the hospital after the incident. ADC Jammu assured to family the inquiry will b conduct, “We will investigate the issue and strict action will be taken against anybody found involved in negligence,” he added.

Later, the girl shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for conduct her postmortem. After conducted postmortem body was handover to her parents.

As per an official, officiating Superintend SMGS has constituted member committee of doctors to look into the allegations of death of a 2 year old girl at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital due to the negligence of doctors. The committee will submit their report to higher authority within given days.

Despite being one of the biggest maternity hospitals in the region, SMGS is always in news for wrong reasons. Recently a newly born child was abducted from the ward, which created lot of panic as it was rumored that child lifting gangs are operational in the hospital.
