Lazy management It is very unfortunate that despite being repeatedly pulled up by the MCI, the administration of GMC Jammu had showed laziness towards the serious issue. That is why the MCI has allotted only 13 more seats, whereas the faculty members of GMC Jammu were expecting more than 20 seats for the upcoming session As per Medical Council Of India (vide its letter dated 28-03-2017) for increase of PG (board Specialty) seats in clinical subjects of GMCs for 2017-18, in GMC Jammu the total number of existing seats for MS (Obst and Gynae) was 9 while the seats available now are 12; the number of existing seats for MS ENT was 6 and now 3 more have been add...

Dysfunctional sleep study lab at CD Hospital

Patients go out for test 3/20/2017 Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 20: The callous attitude of concerned authorities of Chest Diseases Hospital Jammu can be gauged from the fact that the Sleep Study Lab has been rendered dysfunctional for last many years, forcing patients to visit private diagnostic centres or outside of the State where the facility is available. According to experts, the Sleep Study Lab also known as a polysomnogram, records brain waves, heartbeats and breathing as you sleep. It also charts eye movements, limb movements and oxygen in the blood. This data helps the doctors to make a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan, informed a GMC doctor. Senior doctor told Early Times that the Sleep Study Lab installed at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH)'s Chest Diseases Hospital Jammu to diagnose as well as study the disease with cost of nearly Rs 10 lakh to 15 Lakhs but within few years the machine had gone out of order. Musical Chair: Principal GMC sacked amid speculations

Adhocism ails premier health institution 3/14/2017 Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 14 : Abrupt order to sack the incumbent Principal GMC Jammu Dr Zahid Gilani by Health and Medical Education department and catapulting a junior doctor to the top chair has opened a Pandora's box within the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu for not following procedural norms to fill up the post. The sudden moves of removing and placing new principals by the H&ME department in past few years, has apparently demeaned the coveted post of Principal GMC&H Jammu- who has to look after nearly five associated hospitals in the winter capital. The surprising removal of Principal by the concerned ministry has sidelined the directions of High Court which clearly says that proper guidelines must be followed in the appointment of the Principal GMC. "The post of the Principal GMC has been reduced to musical chair on political considerations", ...

Order on generic medicines fades into oblivion

3/8/2017 Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report    Jammu, Mar 8: It seems the state government is not interested in checking whether the orders issued by it from time to time are implemented on the ground by the departments concerned. Take the example of Health department's order number 649-H&ME of 2016. By virtue of the order it's mandatory for the doctors to write names of generic medicines in capital letters on the prescription. On the ground, however, no one is complying with the order. Also, a separate order was issued by the department concerned which said that three copies of prescription should be issued at the time of registration of each patient in government hospitals of the state. Out of these three copies two were to be retained by the hospital so that the audit committee could cross verify if the medicines are prescribed as per the order. However this order also remains unimplemented. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has made amendments in the P...

There are more than 3000 qualified and trained dentists in the State who are jobless for years. "Since, they do not have any employment opportunity even after completing the course by spending lakhs of rupees, they are forced to migrate outside the state; while few, who have resource...
