Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 2: Encroachment of state land is going unabated in Bajalta, with a land mafia thriving in the area because of help from government officials.
Sources told Early Times that at least three complaints have been registered in Crime Brach Jammu as well as the police station concerned against an influential land grabber of Bajalta. The accused has been running his illegal activities like land grabbing in the area for last many years under the patronage of powerful politicians and government officials. Which explains why he has not been touched so far.
"The complainants happen to be gullible people who were cheated by the accused. On Wednesday, more victims came up and lodged complaints against the accused at police station Nagrota. In this connection, police called the accused and inquired about the matter, but a case was not registered," said sources.

"A delegation also called on Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, assured the delegation from Pargalta, Bajalta that their complaints would be looked into. But no action has been taken by the administration against the accused," Girdhari Lal, sarpanch of halqa Pargalta said.
Lal said the delegation also submitted a memorandum to the DC. The memorandum was signed by at least 100 people from Bajalta, and the signatories demanded action over encroachment of land and illegal construction undertaken by the accused.
The people also demanded that the accused should be booked under Public Safety Act (PSA). "But our all efforts have proved fruitless as the accused has the support of politicians and government officers," the locals said.
They said the accused continues to do his illegal activities in the area which include grabbing land and threatening the victims. "There is no one who can control him," said the sarpanch.
Pertinently, well-connected land mafias eye uninhabited plots and buildings in prime areas of Jammu and move in with fake documents to take possession, and same land is later sold to 2 or 3 persons.

Kishtwar MMS scam, again raises issue, how secure is our girls

Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, June 27: In yet another case of how our society is heading towards moral ruin, a recent case of sexual exploitation of B.ed girl has again exposed the vulnerability of our sisters and daughters. Though the accused have been arrested by the police while he was fleeing towards Kashmir, but it raises lot of question about the moral degradation of our society, which has long tradition of ‘Guru-Shiysha’ concept. Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored. Few days back, a teacher of a private college was arrested for allegedly making an obscene MMS of a student in mountainous Kishtwar district. 'The teacher identified as Tariq Qayoo...
