Jammu,
Mar 2: Encroachment of state land is going unabated in Bajalta, with a land
mafia thriving in the area because of help from government officials.
Sources
told Early Times that at least three complaints have been registered in Crime
Brach Jammu as well as the police station concerned against an influential land
grabber of Bajalta. The accused has been running his illegal activities like
land grabbing in the area for last many years under the patronage of powerful
politicians and government officials. Which explains why he has not been
touched so far.
"The
complainants happen to be gullible people who were cheated by the accused. On
Wednesday, more victims came up and lodged complaints against the accused at
police station Nagrota. In this connection, police called the accused and
inquired about the matter, but a case was not registered," said sources.

"A
delegation also called on Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, assured the delegation
from Pargalta, Bajalta that their complaints would be looked into. But no
action has been taken by the administration against the accused," Girdhari
Lal, sarpanch of halqa Pargalta said.
Lal
said the delegation also submitted a memorandum to the DC. The memorandum was
signed by at least 100 people from Bajalta, and the signatories demanded action
over encroachment of land and illegal construction undertaken by the accused.
The
people also demanded that the accused should be booked under Public Safety Act
(PSA). "But our all efforts have proved fruitless as the accused has the
support of politicians and government officers," the locals said.
They
said the accused continues to do his illegal activities in the area which
include grabbing land and threatening the victims. "There is no one who
can control him," said the sarpanch.
