JAMMU, Mar 29: Government Medical College Jammu has got 13 more PG seats, while Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Srinagar has got 20, in yet another case of discrimination with Jammu region.
Lazy management
It is very unfortunate that despite being repeatedly pulled up by the MCI, the administration of GMC Jammu had showed laziness towards the serious issue. That is why the MCI has allotted only 13 more seats, whereas the faculty members of GMC Jammu were expecting more than 20 seats for the upcoming session
As per Medical Council Of India (vide its letter dated 28-03-2017) for increase of PG (board Specialty) seats in clinical subjects of GMCs for 2017-18, in GMC Jammu the total number of existing seats for MS (Obst and Gynae) was 9 while the seats available now are 12; the number of existing seats for MS ENT was 6 and now 3 more have been added; 2 more seats have been added to the MD DVL, making it 5; the number of existing seats for MD (Paediatrics) was 3 while the seats available now are are 5 by enchasing 2 seats.
Similarly, the number of existing seats for MS (General Surgery) was 16 while the seats available now are 19.
"It is very unfortunate that despite being repeatedly pulled up by the MCI, the administration of GMC Jammu had showed laziness towards the serious issue. That is why the MCI has allotted only 13 more seats, whereas the faculty members of GMC Jammu were expecting more than 20 seats for the upcoming session," a GMC faculty member told Early Times.
He said it was not the first time that GMC Jammu has been ignored by successive governments in the state as well as the Centre.

"BJP is ruling both in the state and in the Centre. But it has failed to get due seats to GMC Jammu as compared to Kashmir region," he added.
