Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 14 : Abrupt order to sack the incumbent Principal GMC Jammu Dr Zahid Gilani by Health and Medical Education department and catapulting a junior doctor to the top chair has opened a Pandora's box within the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu for not following procedural norms to fill up the post.

The sudden moves of removing and placing new principals by the H&ME department in past few years, has apparently demeaned the coveted post of Principal GMC&H Jammu- who has to look after nearly five associated hospitals in the winter capital.
The surprising removal of Principal by the concerned ministry has sidelined the directions of High Court which clearly says that proper guidelines must be followed in the appointment of the Principal GMC.
"The post of the Principal GMC has been reduced to musical chair on political considerations", sources in GMC&H Jammu said while referring to latest developments.
"In an impulsive action the Health department removed Dr Zahid Geelani as Principal of GMC Jammu late Monday evening and named HoD Anatomy Department Dr Sunanda Raina at his place," a senior medico posted at GMC&H Jammu.
Meanwhile when contacted Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat confirmed the replacing the present Principal and to evade any detailed reply he briefly replied transfers do take place in course of time.
"Why he has been removed, no one knows," he said, adding, "The reasons are best known to the concerned authorities while medicos at (GMC&H) are sitting with their fingers crossed."
It merits a mention that Dr Zahid too was catapulted as Principal on December 3, 2015 in an unexpected move when he took over from Dr Ghanshyam Dev Gupta who was removed within 20 months after taking over on April 25, 2014.
Sources within the H&ME department told Early Times that the adhocism/makeshift arrangement that GMC, Jammu is witnessing after the retirement of Dr Rajinder Singh- a confirmed Principal of GMC&H Jammu is affecting the affairs of GMC &H Jammu.
The shuffling of top chair in GMC Jammu has become talk of the town, sources said, they added that rumours are in air that Principal GMC Jammu has been sacked for PG seats being decreased.
"Recently four Principals have taken over the charge of the GMC, principal, Jammu, but none of them was confirmed and were placed as in-charge principals only," a faculty member said.
Its in place to mention here that after Dr Rajinder Singh, Dr Anees Chaudhry, took over as the principal GMC. He was followed by Dr Shashi Gupta who was succeeded by Dr Ghanshyam Dev. Similarly, the same happened with Dr Ghanshyam Dev who was replaced overnight with Dr Zahid Gilani.

Kishtwar MMS scam, again raises issue, how secure is our girls

Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, June 27: In yet another case of how our society is heading towards moral ruin, a recent case of sexual exploitation of B.ed girl has again exposed the vulnerability of our sisters and daughters. Though the accused have been arrested by the police while he was fleeing towards Kashmir, but it raises lot of question about the moral degradation of our society, which has long tradition of ‘Guru-Shiysha’ concept. Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored. Few days back, a teacher of a private college was arrested for allegedly making an obscene MMS of a student in mountainous Kishtwar district. 'The teacher identified as Tariq Qayoo...
