State Govt 'not interested' in realizing Mufti Sayeed's dream

Medical Aspirants denied admission through All India Quota
Nitesh Sangral

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 31: Another example of the failure of the Jammu and Kashmir as well as concerned authorities as has completely failed to fulfill the dream of Late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed of having 5 medical colleges in state thus putting future of thousands of aspirants on the stake.

Moreover, adding another failure of the government and lack of vision, medical aspirants are being denied to get admission through All India Quota seats in medical colleges across the country.
Here need to mention that the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test exam (NEET) 2018 Application Form was announced by CBSE to be available in the month of January 2018. CBSE NEET is a national level medical examination, which is conducted for selecting students for admission to MBBS courses. Official sources told Early Times that the medical aspirants of the state were already at disadvantage in the Current NEET format of examination by the existing policy of the state government, as students from J&K are not eligible for centralised counseling for All India Quota Seats in Government Medical Colleges across the country due to non sharing of 15% medical quota with rest of the country.
"Nearly 14000 medical aspirants appear every year for medical courses in state and at present 400 sanctioned strength of MBBS seats by Medical Council of India (MCI) in three medical colleges of the state i.e GMC Jammu, GMC Srinagar and SKIMS, on which BOPPE conducts counseling every year," said official sources.
He added the 'Dream Project' in the form of (starting 5 new medical colleges) of former Chief Minister Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is way far and too less has been done so far in this direction to bring it from papers to practically on the ground.
This is further going to give a setback to the aspirations of medical aspirants, as five new rural medical colleges of the state remain on papers only unlike 22 medical colleges announced at the same time across the country, which have already become reality including neighboring states like Himachal Pradesh and others.
"The new medical colleges announced and inaugurated at the same time across the country have already enrolled MBBS students through NEET last year in 2017, " said a medical aspirant, undergoing NEET preparation, adding it seems no possibility due to flip-flop policy of state Govt that the MBBS students amounting to 500 more incapacity shall be enrolled this year in 2018 for which the CBSE has announced its application for the year 2018 thereby killing the aspiration and possibilities of medical students in this state to get any advantage out of it.

Kishtwar MMS scam, again raises issue, how secure is our girls

Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, June 27: In yet another case of how our society is heading towards moral ruin, a recent case of sexual exploitation of B.ed girl has again exposed the vulnerability of our sisters and daughters. Though the accused have been arrested by the police while he was fleeing towards Kashmir, but it raises lot of question about the moral degradation of our society, which has long tradition of ‘Guru-Shiysha’ concept. Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored. Few days back, a teacher of a private college was arrested for allegedly making an obscene MMS of a student in mountainous Kishtwar district. 'The teacher identified as Tariq Qayoo...
