12/1/2017
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 1: Finally, the State Health Ministry woke up from deep slumber and issued order to close down the 'Fair Medical Shops' of Sanyog Pharmacy in Government Medical College and Hospital and associated hospitals for reportedly overcharging from the patients.

ET had published a news item titled 'Fair price shops in Govt hospitals selling medicines at inflated prices' on November 5 this year and also highlighted how the poor patents were being overcharged by these medical shops by selling drugs on exorbitant rates.
Sources told that numbers of complaints were filed before Minister concerned and the matter was also taken up the State's Drug and Food Control Organization but nothing has been done and they preferred silence on the issue instead of checking the mal- practice which had been going for last many months.
"The authorities woke up, when the complaints reached the Chief Minister office, and direction was given to the concern authorities to shut down the fair medical shops in the government hospitals and initiate an inquiry in the matter, "official sources .
Sanyog Pharmacy had remained in headlines due to wrong reasons since it got the contract for running fair medical shops in the government hospitals. The tender was allotted with aim to provide drugs at discounted prices to the patients but within few months of opening these outlets, the people started complaining that most drugs were available in open market at cheaper rates.

When contacted Controller, D&FCO, Lotika Khajuria confirmed that the few shops were closed and an inquiry will be initiated.
