Jammu, Dec 4: Even when the State government is ranting
over financial crunch, massive Rs 21.50 crores in custody of Jammu Kashmir
Medical Supplies Corporation Limited is stashed in the bank unutilized.
The money was received through bidding for '24X7'
Pharmacy Shops and was supposed to be utilised for improving and maintaining
sanitation in Hospitals.
According to sources, the government had promised that
the money received through bidding shall be utilised for improvement of sanitation,
but even after years this money has not been utilised.
"It appears that the health minister has forgotten
about made promises with regard to the utilisation of money," said source,
adding that the concerned ministry 'shamefully' remained unmoved even after
being censured by the chief minister.
The sources said that the hospital authorities had
hailed the decision of utilising money for the upkeep of sanitation in
hospitals.
"It was a great news to hear that a massive Rs
21.50 crores had been earmarked for the sanitation of the hospitals, but
eventually promises turned into empty recurring," said sources.
Sources said that most hospitals including Government
Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu and its associated hospitals,
have become garbage dumps and surroundings of these hospitals are mired in
filth and dirt and the wards have filthy toilets. There is no scientific system
to dispose highly infectious medical waste as well.
"Since inception of JKMSCL, the hospitals having
limited funds to utilize for emergency drugs, maintenance of Air Conditioners
