Early Times Report

JAMMU, Nov 8: The Government Medical College and Hospitals is always in news for bad reasons. This time it is in news for not conducting elections of Medical Teachers Association (MTA), just to appease some of close aide or influential doctors who don't want of elections to be held.

Pertinently, a delegation of the doctors met authorities requesting them to nominate Returning Officer (RO) for holding elections but nothing has been done so far.
Pertinently the MTA completed its 2 year tenure in the month of January 2017. Unfortunately, the members of pervious MTA neither called for General Body Meeting (GBM) to discuss the issue of elections for the period of 2017-19 nor requested the authorities to nominate Returning Officer to start the process of elections in spite the fact the 2 years tenure of the pervious body completed.
"In view of failure of previous MTA to call GBM as well as request the authorities to initiate process of elections for new body so burning issues would be taken up with concerns, doctors are requested to nominate RO for smooth conducting of MTA elections 2017-19," the latter further stated.
Doctors, seeking anonymity, told that, "We are facing a constant delay in holding election by ending of January this year and the election is delaying reportedly owing to the internal conflict and personal interest among the members of the previous association". Due to non-serious approach of the previous association even incumbent administration, the faculty members are facing numbers of problems but neither association is serious about the problems of the faculty members as well as health institutions nor management.
"Last one year, number of incidents (related to doctors) have taken place in the GMC&H Jammu as well as its associated hospitals but surprisingly, the members of the previous body didn't take stand on it and least bothered about the problems of the faculty members due to personal interest allegedly," they alleged.
They added that a new body should be elected so that the body will highlight the issues before concerned authorities and also highlight those issues which were never brought to light by the previous association viz-a-viz demand of filling vacant posts of the doctors, removes salary disparity within Jammu and Kashmir health institution, increase the pay grade of doctors so private practices of all government doctors should be banned so people of the Jammu will avail the benefits and many more.
