Female staff safety in jeopardy in Jammu

JAMMU, Nov 10: While the Union Government is leaving no stone unturned to create female friendly atmosphere or taking numbers of steps to ensure female employees' safety in the government as well as private sector but in Jammu the safety of the female doctors and staff of wait duties at Urban Health Centre across Jammu at risk in the absence of proper security arrangements.
Officials sources told that almost female staff were working in two shifts morning and wait in the Urban Health Centre across Jammu city but in the absence of security for wait staff were working under safety fear as the anti-elements and drinkers roam around these UHC.
"Numbers of complaints have been made by the victim to the concerned authority to ensure the safety of female staff during wait duties but all in vain ,"sources claimed, adding that neither the concerned department is serious about the safety of the staff -who are continuously providing treatment to the ailing patients-- nor the Head of these Centres.
A doctor, seeking anonymity, told that female staff-- working in these centres-- are working under fear during evening hours as some anti elements of nearby locality visit the centres and demand empty injections. Some are under the influence of liquor start roam the UHC during wait duties then they perform duties under safety fear.
"The issues were taken with concern officials to ensure the safety of female staff but nothing has been done despite assurances". The doctor asked why aren't they feel safe? who is responsible for their safety if anything wrong would be happened with them? why isn't the concerned department ensure their safety? "If they (officials) seek to do wait duties then they should ensure the safety of their female staff as they are working under fear.
Recalling the suspension of the 16 doctors-- who were found absent during wait duties ---the doctor showed other side of the same coin by saying that in the absence of security measures, the female staff don't want to perform wait duties thats why they prefers to go home rather than do duties under fear.
Director Health Services, Jammu Dr Gurjeet Singh Sudan admitted that there was risk but assured that a circular would be issued to concern police station to provide security.

Doctors' "negligence" claims 2 lives

The government on Tuesday issued an order removing GMC Principal, Dr. Zahid Gillani, and appointed Dr. Sunanda Raina as the new Principal.
