Suspension of absentee docs proves to be eyewash

Nitesh Sangral
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 25: The suspension of doctors who were founded absent from duty at Urban Health Centers (UHCs) during a visit of the Health Minister seems merely an eyewash as they were reinstated without an inquiry against them.

On September 26, the Health Minister visited various UHCs across Jammu city. Three UHCs-Shastri Nagar, Talab Khatikan and Talab Tillo-were found closed while 16 doctors were found absent from duty.
The minister immediately issued suspension order of 16 absentee doctors and Chief Medical Officer Jammu. A committee was constituted to inquire into the matter so that suitable action should be taken. But if sources are to be believed, some of the 16 absentee doctors are influential. That's why the Directorate of Health Service Jammu had to issue reinstatement order of the 16 doctors without conducting an inquiry against them.
Even Health Minister Bali Bhagat admitted that the doctors who were posted in the UHCs in the city are very influential. At the same time the minister had assured people through media that action should be taken against absentee doctors.
But the question is who will take action against influential doctors as successive governments have failed to take any action against them. There is a strong nexus between senior officials of the Health Department and many doctors, according to sources.

Director Health Services Jammu, Dr Gurjeet Singh Sudan, was not available for comment.

Kishtwar MMS scam, again raises issue, how secure is our girls

Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, June 27: In yet another case of how our society is heading towards moral ruin, a recent case of sexual exploitation of B.ed girl has again exposed the vulnerability of our sisters and daughters. Though the accused have been arrested by the police while he was fleeing towards Kashmir, but it raises lot of question about the moral degradation of our society, which has long tradition of ‘Guru-Shiysha’ concept. Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored. Few days back, a teacher of a private college was arrested for allegedly making an obscene MMS of a student in mountainous Kishtwar district. 'The teacher identified as Tariq Qayoo...
