GMC does it again: Interviews deferred, thanks to docs

Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 27: Interviews for the posts of Registrar/ Demonstrators in Pharmacology Department of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu have been postponed allegedly at the behest of some doctors.

The interviews had been called to overcome the staff deficiency which had been pointed out by the Medical Council of India. "But it seems some doctors of the college don't want to fill up the vacancies," sources told Early Times.
The interviews for the posts of the Registrar/ Demonstrators in various departments of the college are being conducted by the concerned administration but interviews of the Pharmacology department couldn't be conducted as "the Head of Department (HoD) is not interested in being part of the selection committee which is headed by the Principal."
Sources said when on Thursday the interviews were called with prior intimation to all the committee members including the HODs for various disciplines viz Forensic Medicine, Microbiology, Physiology, Preventive and Social Medicine, and Pharmacology, all interviews were conducted except for Pharmacology department.
"The interviewees were sent back after waiting for a long time because of rivalry between former Principal and incumbent Principal of the GMC. It is not only affecting the working of the departments but also of the institution," said sources.
They said administration and members of selection committee had called HoD of the Pharmacology Department twice, even a written latter was sent to him, but he preferred to stay in his office.
"What was our fault? Why didn't they conduct our interviews, while other disciplines' interviews were conducted smoothly," one of the aspirants, seeking anonymity, told Early Times.
The doctor said if the HoD was not ready to conduct their interviews, the Principal could have got them conducted as she has the power. "However, due to her rivalry with her predecessor, she preferred to defer the interviews, which is completely against the welfare of the institution," sources added."Due to some personal issues, I didn't want to go there, but I had send a doctor from Pharmacology department to conduct interviews," GMC's former Principal Dr Zahid Gillani said, adding that the Principal didn't allow him to conduct interviews.
GMC Principal Dr Sunanda Raina was not available for comments.
