Early Times Report

Jammu, June 26: The apathetic working of administration and Mechanical Wing of the government medical college and hospital can be gauged from fact that, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of premier health institute in Jammu has been functioning without any air-conditioning for the past on month, putting patients to huge inconvenience in this scorching summer heat.

Administration of GMC&H Jammu claimed that the funds have been released to repair or fix the dysfunctional ACs in the hospital but so far, nothing has been done by Mechanical wing of the hospital. It is not first incident of non-serious attitude of above said wing.

A senior doctor in the ICU told Early Times that one month has passed since the air conditioner went out of order and numbers of times complaints about the non-functional air-conditioning have been lodged before concerned administration and Mechanical wing. "Acting swiftly, the administration released funds for necessary repairs but the situation remained same", doctor stated.

"There are life support systems and patients are admitted with serious life threatening illnesses like Heart attack, stroke etc. in the ICU, but these patients battling serious diseases are put to untold misery", he claimed.

Rahul Kumar, an attendant of a patient admitted in the ICU after a surgery, said every day, he had been complaining to the staff, but they simply reply by saying that the complaints are being lodged regularly by other attendants and staff.

When contacted, Executive engineer of Mechanical Wing of GMC, Manish Khurana said, "the compressor of the AC needed replacement so we ordered the new one but the new one also developed a snag and has been sent to the company," he told, adding that they were waiting for the replacement of the compressor.
