Early Times Report

Jammu, May 9: Patients, visiting Indira Gandhi Government Dental College and Hospital (IGGDC) Jammu, are going through harrowing times as two dental casting machines have been lying defunct for last more than 5 years, forcing patients to visit private clinics for treatment.
Senior officials within IGGDC Jammu told Early Times that said two machines worth lakhs were procured in the year 2009-10 to make crowns and artificial teeth but unfortunately the machines had gone out of order within 2 years and since then, the machines have not been repaired due to lethargy and indifference of concern authority.

Pathetic!
There are two machines and the hospital is surviving on a single machine which is also out of order most of the time and other one has not been working for the last many years.
"Dental casting machines were used to construct artificial teeth after root canal treatment. There are two machines and the hospital is surviving on a single machine which is also out of order most of the time and other one has not been working for the last many years, "said a doctor. "When the needy patients come to us for availing this facility, we have to refer them to private clinic as the facility is not available at the hospital," said another doctor on condition of anonymity.
According to several patients, the machines in the hospital have been lying defunct for many years, forcing patients to approach private clinics for treatment. The patents have to pay between Rs 2000 to 4000 for one tooth crown or cap in clinic. If there is need of 3 Unit Bridge (three tooth), patient has to pay between Rs 6000 to 12000, which is beyond the reach of poor patients.

When contacted, a senior official, wishing not to be named, admitted that the machines had been lying defunct but added that concern firm was asked to fix it as soon as possible.
