Early Times Report

Jammu, May 17: Despite assurance by Minister for Health to State Legislative Assembly in the last budget session to start the first batch of Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) Degree Courses but uncertainty is still looming large over its starting.
The concerned authority has reportedly failed to complete all codal formalities including permission and fill up posts of staff to start Ayurvedic College Akhnoor in Jammu region for last eight.
Pertinently, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad had announced two degree colleges for Jammu and Kashmir, Ayurvedic College Akhnoor in Jammu region and Unani Medical College Ganderbal in Kashmir at an approximately cost of Rs. 58 crore in 2009 but Ayurvedic College could not be started so far.
"Owing to lackadaisical approach of State Health Ministry, the construction work is still in progress. Time to time successive government claimed that the first batch of BAMS and BUMS degree courses in the two professional Colleges would be started but they failed to do so," officials Sources said, adding that the concern authority has to take few required codel formalities from Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) including Jammu University.
Official sources claimed that the concerned department had submitted formalities to CCIM for registration in 2016 but it has not been started due to non seriousness approach of the concern department. Moreover, officials also said that the building and its infrastructure of the college which is being established in Akhnoor area Jammu is almost completed.
"There is needed to submit many formalities for starting the college included grant of affiliation from concern Universities, "official sources stated. Sources added that no initiative has been taken to fill up posts of staff viz Professors, Readers, and other staff. It seems the first batch of above said degrees is likely to wait more to get admission in the college in current academic session.
