Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 23: Health Ministry's announcement to start Post Graduation courses in the Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC) and Hospital Jammu has proved empty recurring as administration is yet to apply for PG courses despite having eligible faculty and requisite infrastructure.

Sources within the Health Department told that since establishment of IGGDC Jammu, PG course has not been started due to lethargic approach of the administration and officers of Sate Health and Medical Education Department whereas Dental College Srinagar has been running PG course for last many years.
"In Jammu PG course couldn't be started because of required faculty members and infrastructure as per rules and regulations of Dental Council of India so far," sources stated, adding that now the IGGDC Jammu is having enough infrastructure and well as three Professors, three Associate Professors and others and PG course could be started but failed to do so.

Sources further stated that currently administration was working on proposal of PG course which is lengthy procedure and it will take more than 8 to 9 months to get approval from University of Jammu and Dental Council of India and only then they will able to start the PG course in IGGDC Jammu.

"Owing to discriminatory attitude of the state administration with Jammu province, some aspirant are being forced to go outside the State for doing specialization while others remains with Bachelor degree as they do not have other option," sources stated.

When contacted, Principal of IGGDC Jammu Dr. Romesh Singh admitted that they were yet to apply for PG course in University of Jammu as well as Dental Council of India. He also said that they were working on the proposal and it will be submitted as soon as possible.
