Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 22: In order to overcome the hardships being faced by the patients in emergency cases, the administration of Government Medical College (GMC) and hospital has ordered to shift all testing laboratories under one roof opposite emergency block.
Except Pathology department all other departments have been shifted in the newly constructed Window Collection block.
Sources within the GMC&H told Early Times that work of window collection block opposite emergency ward was completed four months ago and the allied laboratories i.e. Microbiology and Biochemistry's laboratories were shifted three months ago and they are functioning without any difficulty but the officials of Pathology department are not shifting the lab as they need one more room in the new collection block.
"The callous attitude of officials of Pathology department can be gauged from the fact that despite repeated reminders sent to Pathology department to shift their laboratory to the window collection block but they are least bothered about the patient care, leaving patients high and dry-which is situated at fifth floor of GMC," sources stated.
They claimed that the concerned officials of the same department are demanding one more room to run the laboratory but as per the claims of administration the space has been occupied by other two department labs. The demand of another room cannot be fulfilled due to non availability of space but the department has made it as prestige issue but has ignored the problems of the patients.
Owing to which most of the time, patients and their attendants face huge difficulty to find a lab and have to climb stairs upto fifth floor.
The officials at the helm of the affairs are adamant to shift the lab due to unknown reasons which is ultimately defeating the purpose of arranging all the labs under one roof for the interest of patients so the all the required tests should be carried out easily and made available hassle free.

When contacted Head of Department of Pathology department Dr KK Koul said, "Lab will be shifted within days."
