Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 15: At least eight brand new ambulances, which are lying unutilized for last many years in the premises of Directorate Health Services Jammu, have turned into dens of gambling and other illicit things.
Ironically, these ambulances have been allowed to rot even as the Health Department is procuring new ambulances.

Insiders in the Health Department told Early Times that senior officials know what is going on in these ambulances during evening. A number of times, the insiders said, these senior officials have spotted liquor bottles and gambling cards inside the ambulances.
"Besides these officials, the higher ups are also well aware about the activities taking place inside these ambulances during the evening hours and on holidays," the insiders said.

Such activities are going on for last many years but the Health Department authorities have not bothered to launch an action," they said.
Also, repeated claims of shortage of ambulances made by Health Department stand exposed, given that there are these eight ambulances lying unutilized for last many years.

Besides these eight ambulances, there are many more ambulances left to rot in hospitals across Jammu province. In fact some ambulances have been reduced to junk. It's all due to callous attitude of the authorities concerned.
"These eight ambulances were procured after spending huge amount on them for the benefit of patients. Besides these eight ambulances, there are many more ambulances left to rot in hospitals across Jammu province. In fact some ambulances have been reduced to junk," the insiders said. "It's all due to callous attitude of the authorities concerned."

However, Director DHS Jammu Dr. Gurjeet Singh denied that gambling or any other illegal activity was taking place inside these unutilised ambulances.
