Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 14: More than 2000 government-run health institutes across Jammu province are dependant on the lone MRI machine at GMC&H Jammu.
This machine has seen huge patient rush for last 14 years, exposing the claims of "better and quality health services" repeatedly made by the Health and Medical Education Department.

The lone MRI machine was upgraded in 2015. "Instead of installing more machines, the Health Department is using the old MRI machine, which stands obsolete, given the advancement in radio-diagnosis technology in recent years," sources told Early Times.

A number of reminders have been sent to the Health Department to sanction funds for buying new MRI machine to benefit patients, but to no avail.
The GMC&H and its associated hospitals need at least two more MRI machines to streamline the patient care and overcome the huge rush on the lone MRI machine. The lack of facility leads to extra burden of referral patients from across Jammu province on GMC&H Jammu, which is the lone hospital having such facility.
Sources said the patients who visit the associated hospitals and others hospitals for emergency MRI scan are referred to the GMC&H. Every day the hospital daily receives more than 60 to 70 patients from across Jammu province for MRI test. Most of the patients have to wait for two or three weeks for their turn to get the test done.

Sources said a number of reminders have been sent to the Health Department to sanction funds for buying new MRI machine to benefit patients, but to no avail.
