State Govt earns Rs 10276 cr excise revenue from liquor sale in 2 yrs

JAMMU, Jan 19: State Government has earned 10276.73 crores excise revenue from liquor sale in the State through wine shops and bars in the three regions, viz, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh during the last two years.
Replying to a question by MLC BJP , Minister concerned informed that during 2014-15, the Revenue department collected revenue worth Rs 3592.15 cr from Jammu division and Rs 1168.62 from Kashmir region and in 2015-16, Rs 4126.89 revenue was generated by Excise Department from Jammu division and Rs. 1389.07 from Kashmir division.
"Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) 37.61 lakhs bottles were consumed for last 2 years, 698.511 lakhs bottles of JK Special Whisky were consumed, 5.73 lakhs bottles of RTD and 454.47 lakhs bottles of beer were consumed in last two years, "Minister informed.

Press Club Jammu highest liquor consuming club in J&K

JAMMU, Jan 19: Press Club Jammu (PCJ) has emerged as the highest liquor consuming club in Jammu and Kashmir as 7027 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 9,421 bottles of beer were consumed at this club during last 2 years.
Minister in-charge Finance informed through a written reply to BJP MLC question in Legislative Council that the Press Club Jammu, highest 7027 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 9,421 bottles of beer were consumed till November 2016. The consumption was recorded in eight months only (April to November, 2016) in the state, which earlier witnessed massive anti-liquor campaign.
It was followed by consumption of 3,790 bottles liquor and 5232 bottles of beer at Jammu Club, 2,781 bottles liquor and 4,573 bottles of beer at Amar Singh Club Jammu and 154 bottles of liquor and 1752 bottles of Beer at Jammu Tawi Golf Course.
Similarly, people in the Kashmir valley have consumed over 5000 liquor bottles of different brands from April 2016 to November 2016. "Highest 2,198 bottles of IMFL liquor and 655 bottles of Beer were consumed at Amar Singh Club Srinagar followed by 641 bottles of Liquor and 509 bottles of beer at Royal Spring Golf Club Srinagar and 551 bottles iof Liquor and 573 bottles of Beer were consumed at Kashmir Golf Club, Srinagar.

The detail of region wise excise duty collected in the state for last 2 years is: Rs 444.15 crores in 2014-15 and Rs 496.26 in year 2015-16 in Jammu division and Rs 16.98 cr in 2014-15 and in 2015-16 Rs 29.96 cr in Kashmir division and Rs 3.7 and Rs 5.16 in 2015-16 in Leh.
Toll duty worth Rs 517.43 in 2014-15, and Rs 627.42 in 2015-16 from Jammu division, in Kashmir in 2014-15 Rs 19.78 cr, and in 2015-16 Rs 22.53 cr. From Leh the department collected in 2014-15 Rs 5.66 and in 2015-16 Rs 5.17 cr.

Doctors' "negligence" claims 2 lives

The government on Tuesday issued an order removing GMC Principal, Dr. Zahid Gillani, and appointed Dr. Sunanda Raina as the new Principal.
