Jammu, Jan 20: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council unanimously passed a resolution for creating conducive atmosphere for return of displaced Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley with dignity. On Thursday, the Legislative Assembly had unanimously passed a resolution for the return of KPs to the valley.Today, Education Minister Naeem Akhter also favoured the passage of resolution unanimously and said he strongly believed that Kashmir today needs displaced Pandits back to restore the composite culture in Valley.

"This is an important issue and we want to send a message from this House to them as a message in this regard has already been sent from the Lower House," he told the Council.

Terming Kashmiri Pandits as inseparable part of Kashmir, Minister said they have reached to different parts of the world and are on the top positions in the corporate sector, but Kashmir is feeling a huge vacuum due to their absence. Akhter said the migration of KPs was end of a civilization. "If we have to restore that civilisation and culture back in Kashmir, we have to bring back Kashmiri Pandits to Valley with dignity and honour for which our doors and hearts are open and welcoming. But the process of their return should not be restricted to sloganeering alone," Naeem said.

He also said State Government should talk to this civilized community in this regard and displaced Pandits should come back to Kashmir and restore the composite culture in the Valley. As minister appealed to pass it unanimously, some MLCs including MLC Dr Shehnaz Ganai, MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga and others tried to register their suggestions on the issue, but Minister for Education stopped them by saying no debate should be held on the issue and appealed to pass resolution unanimously. Meanwhile, all members of the house supported the resolution and later the Chairman of the Council passed the resolution unanimously by voice vote.

Though the accused have been arrested by the police while he was fleeing towards Kashmir, but it raises lot of question about the moral degradation of our society, which has long tradition of ‘Guru-Shiysha’ concept. Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored. Few days back, a teacher of a private college was arrested for allegedly making an obscene MMS of a student in mountainous Kishtwar district. 'The teacher identified as Tariq Qayoo...
