Early Times Report

JAMMU, Jan 22: Bitten by 'self-praise' bug, the Minister for health and Medical Education can be heard singing in praise of his department for irrelevant achievements in the state Assembly as well as on public platforms, while the fact remains the health units in the state, especially in peripheral areas are fighting
"The health sector is ailing for years due to the shortage of staff, medicines and the modern diagnostic gadgets but the things have not improved on the ground till date despite tall claims from the concerned Minister," sources said.
Self praise won't help
In sharp contrast to ground situation, Health Minister has been counting a few achievements of the department for the past one year. His self praise is not taking the Health department anywhere

"In sharp contrast to ground situation, Minister for H&ME Department has been counting few achievements of the department for the last one year viz Multi-coloured bed sheets have been introduced in the hospitals of the State, Proper (special) coding of the medicines, outsourced sanitation of the Medical colleges and few others", a group of doctors stated.
Ironically his claims were rubbished by MLC of his own party, Romesh Arora who highlighted the pathetic condition of the healthcare across the state and mocked at the hallow claims of the Minister.

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 22: Lack of Anaestheist and Radiologist at District Hospital Kishtwar is affecting patients care especially delivery of pregnant women and forcing patients to move out of district to get adequate treatment.
The state health ministry claims that the health servies in the State have improved but reports from the aforementioned hospital belie these claims. "Earlier, an anaesthetic specialist was posted at DH Kishtwar who is a close relative of the Minister and has managed to get his transfer to Jammu, "a doctor alleged, adding an anaesthetic Dr Anjana Devi was posted but due to some emergency, she is on leave for a month."
Pertinently, district Kishtwar is vast and hilly and the patients mostly from areas including Warwan, Marwah, Padder, Keshwan, Chatroo Himachalis’ and Gundoh visit the hospital. The people of K shtwar blamed local representatives who do not bother to raise the issue of shortage of such doctors in these hospitals at the appropriate forum.
"The shortage of much needed specialists at DH Kishtwar and the inflow of pregnant women were adding to the woes of the hospital forcing the patients to rush to Doda for delivery and other surgeries causing great inconvenience to them. The people have urged the Chief Minister and State Health Minister to arrange the required specialists to improve patient care. People call on retired Anesthesia Dr G.M Naqib in emergency cases to assist in surgeries at DH Kishtwar if available in the town.
When contacted MS DH Kishtwar Dr. Abdul Majid admitted that there is shortage of doctors and matter has been brought into notice of Directorate Health Services Jammu and Minister for Health for appointing doctors as soon as possible.

A group of doctors talking to ET said that vital areas need to be addressed to improve the overall patient care. "There is urgent need to overcome the shortage of doctors in government hospitals as number of unemployed doctors are moving to other states, unavailability of drugs in the hospitals especially Jammu Medical College and Hospital, and most importantly- to reduce the doctor-patient ratio so that patient will get proper time and quality treatment" they averred.
They asserted that it is still distant dream for people to get advance and multispecialty care under Government hospitals, decades after establishment of Govt Medical College, people have to go outside the state to get better medicare.
"Surprisingly, there is trust deficit among patients and their attendants who don't trust the doctors in government hospitals as for the past many years neither the hospital administration nor the Department concerned has taken measures to bridge the doctor-patient gap: they maintained.
