Early Times Report

JAMMU, Jan 8: Much hyped case of diversion of Rs 1.53 Crores in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu is still waiting for State Government and Health Ministry's attention to conduct inquiry into alleged irregularity despite assurances in last session of State Legislative Assembly by Health Minister.
Pertinently, in the month of June 2016, the matter of diversion crores of rupees was taken up in State Legislative Assembly in last year session and then the Minister for Health and Medical Education Department Bali Bhagat assured the House that a panel would be formed within two days to scrutinize each bill and examine the utilisation of funds but no inquiry order has been issued by Minister till date.
Official Sources told early Times that the funds meant for purchase of medicines and other medical equipment which was sought from the State Government to meet the deficiencies were diverted to clear payments of bills-for which work had been done earlier.
"Since the matter was taken in the House, an influential lobby including doctors, who are allegedly involved in the scam, started knocking the doors of higher ups of the concerned department with the help of some political links had started attempts to influence Minister so that scam was never unearthed," Sources alleged.
Sources further said that after six months, it seems the lobby has finally hushed up the matter by using their links and Minister for Health has completely failed to expose the nexus behind the allegedly scam of diversion of Rs 1.53 Crore in GMC&H to clear 'fictitious bills' of Mechanical division of the associated hospitals. The then Principal GMC&H had also relieved the then Deputy Director Planning without explaining any reason, in a cover up bid.

"Crores of rupees of taxpayers are being wasted by the some influential persons, leaders and higher ups to appease their near and dears but it is nobody's concern," a senior doctor said, wishing anonymity, and added that neither Ministers of the State Government nor Opposition leaders who can raise their voice against the loot of taxpayers' money.
