12,919 hectares forest land still under control of encroachers

Jammu, Jan 20: Notwithstanding the claims of State Government of retrieving forest land under the control of influential land grabbers, politicians and others , a reply filed by the government in the Upper House reveals that 12,919.1 hectares of forest land encroached in the state in which 9274.12 hectares is in Jammu province and the remaining 3644.89 hectares forest land is the Kashmir province.
Minister in-charge Forest, Environment and Ecology informed through a written reply to BJP MLC Surinder Mohan Ambardar question in Legislative Council that total 12,919 hectares of forest land encroached throughout the state till April 1, 2015 and only 2,501.5 hectares of land had been retrieved during last 2 years out of the old recorded encroachments. In addition unrecorded/ fresh attempts of encroachment to the tune of 2977.35 have been evicted till December 31, 2016.

The reply revealed that of 12,919 hectares of forest land encroached in the state, 9274.12 hectares is in Jammu province and the remaining 3644.89 hectares encroached forest land is the Kashmir province.

Data puts the Rajouri district of Jammu province on top having the highest number of forest land under encroachment at 2522.50 hectares and 362.06 hectares have been retrieved from the possession of encroachers for last 2 years (ending of December 31, 2016); followed by Ramban where 2166.35 hectares of forest land is under encroachment of which only 246.20 hectares have been retrieved.
 In Poonch district, 1788.30 hectares of forest land is under encroachment, while as only 289 hectares have been retrieved in last 2 years. In Kashmir province, 1353.62 hectares of forest land encroached and only 51 hectares land have been retrieved so far and following by Shopian district where 557.96 hectares forest land encroached and 95.25 hectares have been retrieved.

Doctors' "negligence" claims 2 lives

Dr Gillani, heal thyself 3/16/2017 Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 16: A high voltage drama was witnessed in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu on Thursday when former the Principal refused to leave the chair for his successor. The government on Tuesday issued an order removing GMC Principal, Dr. Zahid Gillani, and appointed Dr. Sunanda Raina as the new Principal. But Dr Gillani refused to obey the order, and made rounds of the hospital premises, escorted by unwilling officials.
