Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 20: The unholy nexus between some doctors
and private pharmacies was exposed on Wednesday when the police seized three
vehicles carrying drugs worth Rs 1 crore outside the Super Specialty Hospital
Jammu.
Reliable sources told Early Times that police also
arrested four persons outside the hospital who were selling drugs openly at
choicest rates. "Private pharmacies are openly roaming in the hospital and
selling their drugs with the help of some doctors. This contradicts the claims
of the department concerned about maintaining a vigil on the illegal
activities," sources said.
They said the illegal practice has been going on inside
as well as outside the government hospitals for last many years.
"More than a month ago, vehicles of private
pharmacies were spotted outside the Super Specialty Hospital Jammu selling
drugs openly with the help of some doctors. However, the administration of the
hospital, which knew about the practice, chose to ignore it," sources
added.
When contacted, Controller Drugs and Food Control
Organisation, J&K, Lotika Khajuria confirmed that the police seized three
vehicles carrying drugs. She said they would apply for its custody on Thursday.
"After taking custody, we will start investigation
and action would be taken under the Act," she added.
