HSRP project: Vehicles registered outside J&K will not get these security plates

JAMMU, June 14: Jammu and Srinagar cities has begun fixing High Security Registration Number Plates (HSRP) on vehicles in line with an apex court order. But this is a bad news for the vehicles with their registration numbers outsider the state. The Transport department has no proposal for outside vehicles. They vehicles fixing there number their owner state.

It is pertinent to mention here that, direction of apex court the transport department has begun the fixing of hi security numbers plates on vehicles. The proposal is going is casual way, nobody is serious about hi security number plates.

Interestingly, the department was planned to fixing HSRP in the series way but due to some reason the department chancel and start applying process, firstly vehicles owner fill the form and apply for HSRP numbers dopiest in RTO office than RTO officials will verify his document and give receipt to the who applying. What is High Security Registration Plate?

A HSRP will ensure safety from vehicle thefts. The number plate once fixed cannot be affixed again. Once allotted, the data will be fed to National Informatic Centre, which will have a database from other states as well. Now, no one can get fashionable with number plates. It has six unique features. Carries a hologram, IND is written on left, A unique laser code, Unbreakable, Same font of alphabets and digits on all number plates carrying INDIA written on them and High reflectivity.

Source said that the Jammu and Srinagar cities have approximately half a million vehicles each plying on their streets. It would be impossible to fix new number plates on all vehicles in the state within two months as directed by the apex court. The company installing plates has a capacity to fix 500-700 plates a day.

He further said that the department has no proposal for outsider vehicles which going on in the state. The transport claimed if outsider number owner fixing the HSRP, who go for that state and fixing the plates. “If they not fixing HSRP on his vehicles the department as well as traffic police will take challan from him.

“With the new process, the sale of number plates in the open market would be banned. The process is aimed at checking vehicle thefts and the faking of the number plates. As per the orders of the Supreme Court, the Union Surface Transport Ministry has embarked on an initiative to go in for high-security number plates” he added

Talking to TNI Regional Transport Officer Virender Slathia said the process started in Jammu and Srinagar while other districts would follow later. The number plates will be visible up to 150 metres and will glow at night. Initially the plates are being fitted only on new vehicles.

"We will fix 150-200 plates daily on new vehicles while the plates on old vehicles will be replaced on dates to be notified later," he said.
