Failure of Corporation leaves Hospitals across J&K bereft of basic medicines

Jammu, Feb 28: Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation (JKMSC) has failed to meet the deadline for procurement of necessary drugs in government hospitals, leaving hospitals across the state without mandatory drugs and suffering patients in deep hole.
Pertinently, it is second time when the Corporation has failed to deliver essential medicines to government hospitals across State due to which poor patients are being forced to purchase basic medicine, injections and life saving drugs from the markets.
However, Managing Director of JKMSC, Dr Yashpal Sharma said due to strike in Haryana State, the samples of drugs have been delayed. "We have drugs but samples have been sent for quality checking and drugs would be delivered within a week, "he claimed.
Contradictory to the claims of MD JKMSC, Sources told Early Times that all samples have not been received by the Corporation yet and it takes 20 days to check and report back to the Corporation. Sources however are indicating at a conspiracy; "Some influential persons are playing a role in delaying for their vested interests," Sources alleged and further said that the Corporation had already extended date of delivery of drugs till March 31st 2016. "How can they deliver required drugs to all the hospitals within a week, "Sources asked.
They said the Corporation has been receiving reminders from all the government hospital about the diminishing stocks of drugs, but not even single medicine has been provided to them by the Corporation.
"Owing to lackadaisical approach of the JKMSC, the poor patients are suffering in district and sub district hospitals resulting in the cases of brawls between doctors and patients" Sources claimed.
The premier health institutes in Jammu province i.e. Government Medical College and Hospital, Shri Maharaja Ghulab Singh Hospital, CD Hospital, Super Specialty Hospital Jammu are managing through other sources, but District, Sub District, Primary Health Centre (PHC) and Community Health Center (CHC) across Jammu province are most affected due to unavailability of medicines.
