Dental College inspection: Stake holders apprehend bias

Jammu, Oct 18: Apprehensions of bias are being expressed by the stake holders ahead of the scheduled inspection of the private Dental College at Sehora Jammu by the Principal Government Dental College, Jammu as the son of the latter is undergoing a BDS course in the private college.
As per the University rules, no one should be the member of the inspecting team if he/she had any kin/relative studying in the college where the inspection is scheduled.
Faculty members of the said college pleading anonymity said that the college management has adopted a dictatorial approach in releasing the monthly salaries, increment and other benefits to the faculty for which the faculty time and again has taken up the issue with management but all in vain.
Now when they were hoping that inspection of college will bring out the mismanagement in the college functioning, the apprehensions of bias has dashed their hopes as they fear that the father being members of the inspection team will submit a favorable biased report just to get some favours for his son.
One of the senior faculty members on promised anonymity alleged that the college management even has failed to provide requisite equipments and facilities to the students studying in the college. "The students often succumb to the various forms of pressure from management whenever they decide to protest demanding facilities at the college", he stated, further alleging that numbers of faculty of the College has been appointed from Punjab on call, which means they are engaged on need basis only.
Senior official of JU said that the member of inspection team Dr Romesh had not made any disclosure regarding his son being student of the private college.
When contacted, Incharge Director of the Colleges Development Council of JU, Jai Kumar Sharma said that he didn't know that Dr Singh's son was studying at that college. "If it is so then they will certainly look into the matter", he claimed adding, if any report of discrepancies in the college is brought to the notice of the University, action would be taken after verify the facts.
