Jammu, Sept 27: Already
hitting headlines for wrong reasons, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU)
has now allegedly violated norms by adjusting a blue-eyed candidate, who is
alleged to have failed in 12th class, in integrated M Sc Economics course.
Sources revealed to Early
Times that on September 14, SMVDU VC, Prof S K Jain called a meeting of Board
of Academics, Research and Consultancy (BARC) with the agenda of a student
namely Apoorva Jamwal's admission, who is alleged to have failed in her 12th
standard, by bending the University Granted Commission (UGC) norms and
guidelines but the members refused to abide by VC's decision. "In the BARC
meeting, 22 of the 24 members present opposed the admission of influential student
but two members who are close associates of VC remained silent on the entire
episode, and the VC allegedly concealed the facts from Chairman Admission
Committee and Faculty of Management, Prof D Mukhopadhyay before the BARC
meeting because he wanted to adjust blue-eyed student clandestinely.
Sources alleged that,
instead of abiding by the decision of BARC members, VC removed Prof
Mukhopadhyay from the chair of Dean of Faculty of Management to adjust the blue
eyed student and stated that after a day, VC gave additional charge of Dean of
Faculty of Management to V K Bhat to complete his agenda of Apoorva's
admission. Once again VC called a meeting of Academic Council on September 18,
2015, and members then gave a green signal to VC.
Sources said, in the UGC
guideline, it has been mentioned that the candidate should have passed the 12th
standard with 60 per cent marks the intergraded M Sc Economics.
Denying the allegations,
VC Jain claimed that some people were misguiding and spreading wrong
information outside of the University. "We can give admission to Apoorva
on supplementary basis and give chance for one term and same rules exist for
all. If the candidate does not pass class 12th, the admission of the candidate
would be cancelled.
When asked, if the provision
existed in UGC guidelines?, he replied, "it is also not mentioned in UGC
guidelines that we cannot admit a student on supplementary basis, it only
depends on University authority".
