Early
Times Report
jammu,
July 28: Two patients have died in the Jammu and Kashmir allegedly due to
non-availability of anti-hemophilia factor in the hospitals of the state in
last eight months, puncturing the tall claims of the Health Minister. Moreover,
the patients are still yearning for factor.
Heartless
attitude of the Health Department, is deliberately forcing hundreds of
patients, who are suffering with this life-long genetic bleeding disorder
Hemophilic, to die in Jammu as well as Kashmir as factors have not been made
available to the needy patient especially those who couldn't buy the expensive
factors.
Pertinently,
irked by the lackadaisical approached of the Health Department, the Jammu and
Kashmir High Court had also pulled up and directed it to keep the factor available
for 24 hours in the hospital. But unfortunately, in complete disregard of
directions of the Court, as failed to avail anti-hemophilia factor available in
the hospitals.
Reliable
Sources in the Health Department told Early Times that said that there are 350
registered patients suffering from Haemophilia, an uncommon genetic bleeding
disorder that disrupts the blood clotting process in the State, whereas there
are only two treatment centres in the entire state as a result, patients need
to travel a lot for factor infusion.
"Due
to non-availability of drug in the hospitals of the state, two patients have
died, "they alleged adding that the condition of others patients was
worsening day by day and as a result, they may slip into comma. The patient can
even die painful death if the drug is not made available immediately.
A
member of Haemophilia society of Jammu and Kashmir alleged that two patients
died due to non-availability of factor in the hospitals. Last year, a patient
namely Ram Lal resident of Pallanwala Jammu, visited GMC Jammu and doctor
deliberately sent him back to home and after a day, he died.
"Similarly,
14 years old patient was admitted in GMC hospital Soura, Srinagar and
interestingly there was no factor available in the hospital. As he slipped into
Coma, the parents brought him to SKIMS. Even his father also sold their land to
buy highly costly medicine, which is only available in Union Capital, to save
his son but it was too late, when medicine reached, the boy had died,
"with tears in her eyes he said.
"In
both cases, the patients died, while yearning for medicine, if the factors were
available in the hospitals, the lives could have been saved, " he alleged.
He
further alleged that the administration of GMC hospital gave step motherly treatment
to the patients. "Owing to lackadaisical approached of the department,
hundreds of patients, who are suffering from Haemophilia, have been left on god
mercy due to non-availability of the factor, "he also alleged.
He
disclosed that many times requisitions were sent to Jammu and Kashmir Health
Department to purchase the lifesaving drugs for the treatment of these patients
but they have not received anything except assurances.
When
contacted Principal of GMC hospital Dr Ghanshyam Dev Gupta said that the funds
would be released in next week as soon as the funds are released, orders will
be placed for the factors.
