At GMC, meals for patients may be stopped due to financial crisis

7/29/2015 Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report    Jammu, July 29: Meals to patients who are admitted in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and its associated hospitals might be stopped in coming days as the authorities have not cleared the outstanding of the supplier. The supplier has already stopped supply of breakfast to the patients after the purchasing committee of the GMC failed to clear its pending bills totaling about Rs 1.83 crore. Now, sources said, the supplier is likely to stop the afternoon meal as well. "It seems the supplying firm would be unable to continue the supply of diets to all these hospitals, as their payment is pending for a long time. Ironically, now when it's likely that the meals would be stopped, the authorities seem unbothered about the plight of patients," the sources said. Fire at SSH creates panic, property worth lakhs gutted

The incident exposes "faulty" fire management system 7/7/2015 Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report    Jammu, July 6: Panic gripped the premier Super Speciality Hospital here Monday evening following mysterious fire which broke out in CT Scan unit, gutting property worth lakhs and exposing the "faulty" fire management system of the health institute. Short circuit was believed to be cause of the fire which was brought under control by the fire tenders that were pressed into service. This is the second incident of fire in the hospital and it seems as if the administration of hospital and higher ups have not learnt lesson from the first incident that occurred on November 9, 2014. Paramedical staff of GMC, associated hospitals without salaries since May

7/4/2015  Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report  Jammu, July 4: Some employees of paramedical staff of Government Medical College (GMC) and Hospital and its associated hospitals have not received salaries for the last two months. Sources told Early Times that half of the paramedical staff did not get salary from May this year, while some of their colleagues in are drawing their salaries regularly. "Some of the staff members hailing from far-flung areas and living in the city as tenants are the worst hit. They have to borrow money to pay the monthly rent," a source said. A staff member, seeking anonymity, said the staff had sent several reminders to the Medical Superintendent concerned but in vain. "We were appointed through Medical Education department in the hospital, but we have been left in the lurch while our colleagues in the hospitals are drawing their salaries every month," she added. National Doctors' Day goes unnoticed in J&K 7/1/2015 Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report     Jammu, July 1: Barring a couple of small functions, the National Doctors' Day largely went unnoticed in J&K. Here in Jammu, only two departments of the GMC hospital celebrated the day while in Kashmir Valley, the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) observed the day as a 'black day'. Official sources told Early Times that in Jammu, the Health department had not made any arrangement for the day. "There was no publicity and awareness campaign among the medical fraternity," a senior doctor of the GMC and hospital said, wishing anonymity.
