Hospitals fail to clear outstanding bills worth crores

Private firm stops morning diet in govt hospitals

Jammu, June 2: Thousands of patients admitted in government hospitals are directly affected as the private contractors have stopped providing morning diet (milk and bread) to patients in GMCH and its associated hospitals, reason, their bills worth crores are pending for a long time.
According to sources, contractors have not been paid crores of rupees against supply of food items to patients due to which they have stopped morning diet supply to patients in the GMCH and its associated hospital including SMGS Hospital, Super Speciality Hospital (SSH), CD Hospital (CDH), PSY Hospital (PSYH), Ayurvedic Hospital, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar and Government Hospital, Sarwal. This has increased the problems of patients in government hospitals.
Sources in hospitals informed Early Times that the supplier firm has been writing to the all government hospitals along with Jammu and Kashmir health deptt. to clear the outstanding amount so that their employees are paid their salaries regularly.
"Repeated served notice to hospitals that the firm would not be in a position to continue the supply of diet to the all government hospitals and only GMC hospital has cleared outstanding amount of last year, "they stated, adding that only Shri Maharaja Ghulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital was pending highest amount from other government hospitals.
Sources said in past, the funds were used to be released under plan budget and such problem did not take place but now the funds are released under non-plan budget and that too very little, so hospitals are unable to clear all dues of diet suppliers.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent of GMC hospital Jammu, Dr Ravinder Rattan Pal admitted that liabilities of diet supplier are pending in the government hospitals and said that in last month GMC hospital had cleared its outstanding amount of last year.
He further said that hospital authority had written to the concerned authorities to clear the contractors' bills. As soon as the funds are released by the government, the bills would be cleared.
