Jammu,
June 2: Thousands of patients admitted in government hospitals are directly
affected as the private contractors have stopped providing morning diet (milk
and bread) to patients in GMCH and its associated hospitals, reason, their
bills worth crores are pending for a long time.
According
to sources, contractors have not been paid crores of rupees against supply of
food items to patients due to which they have stopped morning diet supply to
patients in the GMCH and its associated hospital including SMGS Hospital, Super
Speciality Hospital (SSH), CD Hospital (CDH), PSY Hospital (PSYH), Ayurvedic
Hospital, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar and Government Hospital, Sarwal.
This has increased the problems of patients in government hospitals.
Sources
in hospitals informed Early Times that the supplier firm has been writing to
the all government hospitals along with Jammu and Kashmir health deptt. to clear
the outstanding amount so that their employees are paid their salaries
regularly.
"Repeated
served notice to hospitals that the firm would not be in a position to continue
the supply of diet to the all government hospitals and only GMC hospital has
cleared outstanding amount of last year, "they stated, adding that only
Shri Maharaja Ghulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital was pending highest amount from
other government hospitals.
Sources
said in past, the funds were used to be released under plan budget and such problem
did not take place but now the funds are released under non-plan budget and
that too very little, so hospitals are unable to clear all dues of diet
suppliers.
When
contacted, Medical Superintendent of GMC hospital Jammu, Dr Ravinder Rattan Pal
admitted that liabilities of diet supplier are pending in the government
hospitals and said that in last month GMC hospital had cleared its outstanding
amount of last year.
He
further said that hospital authority had written to the concerned authorities
to clear the contractors' bills. As soon as the funds are released by the
government, the bills would be cleared.
