Early Times Report

Jammu, June 16: In complete disregard of Directions of the J&K High court, Health department has failed to avail anti-hemophilia factor available for 24 hours in the hospitals. Owing to lackadaisical approached of the department, hundreds of patients, who are suffering from Haemophilia, have been left on god mercy as non-availability of the factor as well as diagnose facility in Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu.
Pertinently, there are 350 registered patients suffering from Haemophilia , an uncommon genetic bleeding disorder that disrupts the blood clotting process in Jammu and Kashmir, whereas there are only two treatment centres in the entire state as a result, patients need to travel a lot for factor infusion.
An official in the GMC hospital told Early Times that irked by the callous attitude of the Health Department towards the hemophilia patients; the Jammu and Kashmir High Court had also pulled up and directed it to keep the factor available for 24 hours in the hospital. But unfortunately, the Health department has disobeyed the court ruling also.
"In Jammu, the factor to treat the patients is not available since December till date. GMC hospital also lacks a sophisticated laboratory to diagnose the patients due to which, the patients are compelled to go to private clinic or outside the state, which is too costly, "he stated.
A member of Haemophilia society alleged that all the patients are being neglected by the Health department and state government. Those, who are suffering from the disease, return disappointed from the hospital as lack of required factor can complicate their disease anytime.
He alleged that the administration of GMC hospital has been given step motherly treatment to the patients by opening the center on fifth floor of the hospital building. It is too difficult for the patients to even reach the center.
When contacted Principal of GMC hospital Dr Ghanshyam Dev Gupta said that he had sent a proposal to the higher authority for releasing the funds, as soon the funds were released, the factors will be provided to needy. When asked why the center in GMC hospital is closed on Sunday, he replied that he would try to open center on Sunday as soon staff would be strengthened.

Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education MK Bhandari did not respond to the phone calls.
