Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 3: Advocates of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association and junior Doctors of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu have come to loggerheads after despite security personnel deployed at the GMC, the doctors have refused to call of their strike causing gross inconvenience to the patient at a time when swine-flu scare is looming large in Jammu region.
Condemning the attitude of resident doctors, a senior doctor of GMC hospital on condition of anonymity said that repeated stirs called by junior doctors were totally uncalled for doctors, to shun work at the drop of the hat is criminal as they are under oath to protect human lives under all circumstances.
"it is fourth time during the past two weeks, junior doctors of the GMC and Hospital Jammu have gone on strike thus putting the patients in lurch while deadly disease H1N1 (swine flu) has gripped the state" he said assailing the stance of junior doctors.
Meanwhile, patients and their attendants are in deep distress. "If there is an altercation between a doctor with an attendant, this is a case between two individuals and should be dealt with that way. It is unwarranted for entire doctor fraternity to shun work" said an attendant.
In the meantime, advocate fraternity suspended work in all the Courts for two days and condemned the statement issued by the Resident Doctors Association that 'lawyers think that they are above law'.
It is pertinent to mention here that on February 28, following scuffle between a doctor and two persons, junior doctors had gone on strike and doctors had demanded FIR against the accused and provide security to the doctors.
In response to RDA's demand about 20 police personnel were deployed at GMCH, but the association is demanding withdrawal of FIR against doctor.
Reacting on the statement issued by junior doctors, President of Bar Association, M K Bhardwaj said none is above law including the doctors and doctors have no right to deprive the public of medical facilities, which is an essential service. Doctors are under an obligation to remain in the parameters of service regulations being public servants and any dereliction of duly may entail them of serious consequences.
During protest, advocates appealed the State government to take strict action against the RDA, which is duty bound to serve and provide medical facilities to the public.
When contacted Principal of GMC&H, Dr Ghanshyam Dev Gupta informed, "Strike has been declared illegal Tuesday afternoon by authorities, any doctor found to be violating the order shall be dealt with as per rules.

Kishtwar MMS scam, again raises issue, how secure is our girls

Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, June 27: In yet another case of how our society is heading towards moral ruin, a recent case of sexual exploitation of B.ed girl has again exposed the vulnerability of our sisters and daughters. Though the accused have been arrested by the police while he was fleeing towards Kashmir, but it raises lot of question about the moral degradation of our society, which has long tradition of ‘Guru-Shiysha’ concept. Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored. Few days back, a teacher of a private college was arrested for allegedly making an obscene MMS of a student in mountainous Kishtwar district. 'The teacher identified as Tariq Qayoo...
