centres asked to get registration, stop co-education

Jan 08: After acid attack on female teacher at tuition centre in Srinagar, the
Education Department has once again directed all the tuitions centres to
register their institutions besides, asking for restriction on co-education and
improvement in infrastructure. The department has warned that if guidelines
were not met, the institutions will be closed.
Interestingly, in 2010 the department made a committee that had asked the private schools as well as tuitions centres to submit their fee structure in written so that guidelines and fee structure could be devised in general.
Since then more than two years have passed but the committee did nothing on the vis-à-vis agenda given to her. Now, the department has asked the tuition centres to get them registered. Pertinently, there are thousands of private tuitions centres running across the State.
Official sources disclosed that after the incident of acid throwing the administration has decided to registration of coaching and tuition centers so as to give a message that it was active. “The institutions which will not follow the norms of education department, they will be asked to stop operation”, he added.
Besides, all the coaching and tuition centers have been instructed to immediately stop co-education system. “They have been asked to separate time and classrooms of boys and girls,” sources further said.
There have been many complaints from the people in general regarding the nuisance of coaching and tuition centers. Also, the parents are critical of fees charged by these institutions.
When contacted, Commissioner secretary of Education department could not be contacted.
