Tale of woes in Health department

Winter arrives heating systems go out of order in hospitals

Nitesh Sangral
JAMMU, Nov 23: The health institutions of the state always remain in discussion for one or another reason. With the onset of winter, the heating systems installed in the hospitals have started hogging limelight. As per people, the heating systems are non_functional.

It is pertinent to mention here that the state health department installed
heating system in all the health institutions falling under the cold zone area of the state. This facility was especially added in labour rooms.

Hospital source said that two years have passed since the installation of heating systems. But now these LPG cylinder fitted heaters have become defunct due to the lack coordination of concerned authorities.

“Some of the hospitals in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch besides; Doda, Bhaderwah, and Kishtwar have heating system but are non-functional,” he added. He informed that heating systems in the district and sub-district hospitals in Jammu division were not functional as yet, causing huge inconvenience to the patients.

He divulged that after using the cylinders fitted with the heating system were never refilled after the first time use. This was happening solely because of lack of interest of the hospital authorities. The systems are non-operational from the last two years in various hospitals of the Jammu division.

“Though the heaters are being used by the hospital administration regularly but the hundreds of the patients are kept in lurch,” the sources added, while saying that the gynaecological section was suffering most as arrangement of heating is mandatory for the pregnant women.

He stated that traditional heaters and blowers are inadequate to warm up the rooms and wards of the hospital due to erratic power supply during the winter season. Interestingly, in Jammu district, Gandhi Nagar and Sarwal hospitals don't have such facility.

Official said that the winter season has just set in the state and department has made all necessary arrangements of heating in all districts and sub districtshospitals. The district hospitals have in built heating systems and would be made functional soon.
