JAMMU, Nov 21: The Jammu Police is totally blind when it
comes to use of Close Circuit Televisions (CCTV) cameras for record crime
related activities, as most of the CCTV cameras are not functioning, but it
wants to install 100 more.
Amazingly, the demand has raised eyebrows as the old one are
not being repaired which were installed at the cost of more than Rs 50 lakh
about four years back.
Similarly, the traffic police department also sent proposal
of 82 Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras install in the city for streamline
traffic and deal with the traffic violators here. Of these, 34 CCTV cameras have
already been installed in the city and work is going on fast track to install
the rest of the cameras.
Pertinently, the Jammu and Kashmir government has spent of
corers of rupees on these CCTV cameras and installed most of crowed place
across Jammu. But despite the spent corers of rupees, these cameras are proved
blind alley.
Sources said police had already installed 12 CCTV cameras in
the city but most of them have gone out of order and are not functioning. The
security arrangements in the city and its outskirts have been beefed up after
the recent attack on liquor shop at Narwal area.
He further said that near about five have been passed to
installed CCTV cameras in the Jammu and Kashmir state but whenever any crime
happened in the nearly the CCTV cameras, these cameras, is not serving the
purpose, for which they have been installed in the state particularly in Jammu
city, the winter capital of the state.
He stated the Police department maintained that there were
lot of expectations and hopes in the department that the installation of the
CCTV cameras would help in solving cases, but results were not up to the
expectations.
“The information received from the various police stations
of Jammu city, reveals that the rate of case solving in the city is not on the
expected lines despite installation of CCTV cameras in the city,” police
official on condition of anonymity. He also informed that the CCTV cameras have
proved unsuccessful to put a check on the crime incidents and nab the culprits
involved in many incidents.
When contacted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) PCR
Jammu Vijay Kumar is refused to any comment on CCTV cameras issue.
