41,000 HSRP fixed on vehicles so far

JAMMU, Nov 25: Near four months have been passed to begin the fixing of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles in the Jammu and Kashmir State, but the transport departments has so far fixed only 41,000 HSRP on different kind of vehicles. The departments have no proposal to fix Plates on fast track.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Jammu and Srinagar cities have begun fixing High Security Registration Number Plates (HSRP) on vehicles in line with an apex court order. The project is taking moreover time to complete the fixing work of number plates.

Source said that the state is close to a million to registered vehicles, according to transporter department.  “As many as 9,82,190 vehicles of different kinds, including goods and passenger heavy motor vehicles (HMV) and light motor vehicles LMV, are registered with the transport department  . Out of these 5, 99,553 vehicles are registered in Jammu Division alone,” he added.

“And the department has registered only 41,000 vehicles fixed HSRP plates out of a million vehicles. Out of these, 25,123 HSRP have been fitted on the vehicles in Jammu Division, while as 16,085 in Kashmir Division,” he said. He also stated that, if the department is going similarly, the project will take many years to fix it HSRP number on the state vehicles.

It is necessary to have high security number plates on vehicles registered in the state as per the Central Motor Vehicle Rule, 1989, a spokesman of the state transport said. According to the directions of the Supreme Court, all new vehicles would require such plates at the time of purchase and the work of fixing them on old vehicles has already been started in the districts Transport offices, he said.

Talking to TNI Region Transporter officer (RTO) Varinder Singh Salithia said that the department handover the work of fix HSRP number to private company and they are fixing plates more than 300 to 400 hundred in per day. “I would not comment or talk about the project on fast track,” he said.

Doctors' "negligence" claims 2 lives
