JAMMU, Sept 07: Despite the fact the Jammu and Kashmir Police has completely failed to protect the women in the state especially girls, but now rape cases have become a order of the day.

The incidents are raising question mark over the functioning of the police department, which claims to be best force in the country to deal with any type of crime and criminals.

Recently, three women were allegedly raped in different incidents in the different location in the Jammu and Kashmir State from last few months.

The alarming is that in just past 48 hours, four rape cases have been in the news, with family members alleging that accused are using political pressure to scuttle investigation.

Pertinently, as many as 1100 cases were registered in different police stations in during 2010-11 in Jammu alone. The cases related to dowry harassment have almost doubled. , nearly 605 cases have been reported in the Women Cell of the police. As per the data, about 400 domestic violence cases have been sorted out after mutual compromise while FIR has been registered in 14 cases at Women Cell, Canal Road. Nearly 191 cases are pending before the court for hearing.

In the first incident, a girl was allegedly gang-raped by four people, including a Special Police Officer (SPO), in Chenani area of Udhampur district. Parents informed that their minor daughter had gone to local market for purchasing domestic items. While returning home, she was abducted by four persons who gang raped her in nearby jungle and fled away, parents alleged.

Police said that the accused namely Javed Iqbal (SPO), Abdul Jabar, Bitta Lone and Mushtaq. While no arrests have been made so far, a case has been registered and the girl's statement will be recorded on Friday.

A girl student was also allegedly raped in Rajouri district when she was returning home from school. After few days the girl also committed suicide. Police claimed the accused, Sadam Hussain, has been arrested.

In a third incident, police have arrested two people Mohammad Hussain and Mojhdin for forcibly entering the house of a married woman and allegedly raping her in Ramgarh area of Samba district few days back.
“The question is are our women safe in the state. The police is simply bucking under the political pressure, like in case of the Rajouri girl, who committed suicide”, said a local resident, Sunita Sharma.

Official source said that the police department claimed the in those case the accused have been arrested in different police stations. The investigation is running. He also said that the state police department has not taken serious step to stop the rape and crime against women in state.

Kishtwar MMS scam, again raises issue, how secure is our girls

Nitesh Sangral JAMMU, June 27: In yet another case of how our society is heading towards moral ruin, a recent case of sexual exploitation of B.ed girl has again exposed the vulnerability of our sisters and daughters. Though the accused have been arrested by the police while he was fleeing towards Kashmir, but it raises lot of question about the moral degradation of our society, which has long tradition of ‘Guru-Shiysha’ concept. Sources said that it could be a tip of the ice berg as there are number of people who are exploiting the innocent girls. However the concern is how to stop this menace which is like a curse on our society. A college student said that at times girls face mental harassment in shape of comments, sudden touch or lewd gestures from the teachers, but it is mostly ignored. Few days back, a teacher of a private college was arrested for allegedly making an obscene MMS of a student in mountainous Kishtwar district. 'The teacher identified as Tariq Qayoo...
