Fake currency racket burst

Rs. 65,000 fake currency recovered from local youth

JAMMU, Oct 30: In yet another detection of fake currency racket, Jammu police today arrested a youth who was carrying fake currency of Rs. 65,000.

Reports said that Nowabadh police arrested the accused identified as Manu Kumar son of Ragunath, resident of Roopnagar, who is alleged to have brought the money from a person in Srinagar. A complaint in this regard has been lodged in the Nowabadh police station.

Station House Officier Jai Pal Sharma said that on a tip-off, they detained Manu Kumar and found the money in possession. During checking the money turned to be fake.

He further said that the matter is being investigated and the reasons behind transportation of money and its purpose are being ascertained. A case has been registered at Nowabad Police Station here.

It is pertinent to mentioned here that October 27, 2012, Poonch Police has arrested three people and seized fake currency having face value of Rs 20,000 in Poonch. The arrested accused Parvez Ahmed, resident of Seri Chouhana, Mohammad Ishtiaq and Parvez Ahmed, both residents of Kotha, Poonch.
Official source also disclosed that the security agencies are worried about the increasing influx of counterfeit Indian currency in the economy and are trying to device ways and means to tackle this "economic" terrorism.

According to figure the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized Rs 2.16 cr in fake notes in 2011-12, the highest seizure in the past three years, of which Rs 1.56 cr was netted from the national capital.

“According to the Reserve Bank of India, 521,155 counterfeit notes were detected in 2011-12. The figure for 2010-11 was 435,607 and 401,476 for 2009-10,” he added.

When contacted to Deputy Inspector of General (DIG) Jammu to Kathua range JP Singh said that the police department has issued the clear to all Police station and police posts, whereas these types’ activities are running to immediately take strict action against the accused.

He further said that the police department also will launch a special drive, in which the police officials hold seminars and workshops to aware the people especially rural areas. The department also will go in the schools and educational institute to aware the students.
