Mobile Bike squads introduced by Police a failure in Jammu

Lakhs of rupees goes to drain

JAMMU, Aug 29: The much hyped mobile police squad constituted by the Jammu Police has turned out to be farce, as none of them can be seen on the roads.

The 12 member squad was constituted keeping in view to check the incidents of social crime like chain and purse snatching, thefts, burglaries besides other social evils. Sources said that in absence of funds and required interest by the senior police officials, most of the bikes are non-functional and are not being used.

Surprisingly when contacted Senior Superintend of Police (SSP) Jammu, Parbhat Singh said that bikes are deployed at the different locations in the city. “I don’t have much information about this concept. I will have to check”, he Singh said.

Official Source said that in a bid to tighten noose against miscreants and anti-social elements, Jammu Police has introduced a 12 member Motor Bike Squad to keep check on rising crime rate in the city.

Police has introduced six motorbikes comprising 12-member squad and it was announced that more such bikes will be introduced in phased manner to check the incidents of crime in the city.

Sources further said that the Motor Bike Squad was introduced with an idea to conduct visits in congested lanes where the police gypsies were not able to conduct race and the criminals sometimes manage to give slip to the police.

Three bikers each were divided for Jammu North and Jammu South, “the police control room can immediately inform them on receiving any complaint and they will act swiftly
Source said that the ever increasing cases of theft and snatching in the city have become a cause of worry for city residents. Despite the increase in police patrolling and the number of nakkas that have been set-up at various intersections across the city, there seems to be no letup in the incidents of theft and snatchings.

“Residents also complain that the rate of crime once again grow up in the city. Police has failed to crack cases of burglaries and thefts. Where are those bikes which deployed at different locations in the city, “he added.
