Traffic police fails to curb overloading in city, failing to deal with the violators
Nitesh Sangral
JAMMU, July 20: Despite clear directions by the government banning overloading in passenger vehicles, traffic police has failed take strict measures against the violators.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Jammu region in particular have been witnessing countless road mishaps for the past two years. But the concerned authorities have never taken strict action against them.

On February 22 this year, a meeting was also held under Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) and deliberated on various issues related to regulation of traffic system in the State. TAC suggested severe punishment against those who indulge in overloading in both goods carriage and passenger vehicles. The meeting further suggested that licenses shall be issued only to those who get training from 59 governments registered Driving Training Institutes.

Interestingly, discuss the traffic system issue in the meeting but the ground level no one rules have implement by the traffic department and other concerned department.

A Commuter Rahul Saini said this refers to the drive against over-load and traffic mess by traffic police. It is good to see that traffic police started drive against violators. But in front of the traffic police the conductors of the passenger vehicles always stuff passengers inside their vehicles like animals. The men in blue do not taken any action against them. And whenever any passenger complaints to the driver, they seem not to care.

It is the mini bus drivers making profit at the end of the day. They have no care of the passenger life. Some drivers also rough driving on the road and traffic police officials only see them but they not take legal action.

“The traffic department time to time starts drive against the traffic rules and regulations violators for a week. But official have not success to imposed action on rules violators in the city,” he says.

He further said the onus was on the law enforcement agencies and the administration to check the practice. The authorities could streamline the traffic system in the city. The traffic officials have been adopting the habit of passing the blame onto others.

When contacted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic, Jammu Manmohan Singh said that the drive against the traffic violators as well overloading vehicles are continue running in the city as well as adjoin areas.

“We look the entire matter if the overloading is running the department would take strict action against them,” he further said.
